Please write a short essay (2 or 3 paragraphs) describing yourself to the people viewing the website. Let people know who you really are. Keep in mind the questions you’ve already been asked and include other things that you would like people to know about you.

Disco, drama club, and design. What do these have in common? They are a few of my favorite passions and words that describe me. I am Skylar Taylor, a sixteen year old from Grenada, Mississippi, with larger than life dreams fueled by my many interests and experiences.

I have a creative and unique sense of style. I designed my own bedroom using modern lines, crisp colors, and chrome accents. I find inspiration in the architecture all around me and found my greatest inspiration while traveling in Italy, where the carbs weren’t bad either! I plan to one day attend school in New York and pursue a career in interior design.

I love to entertain and use my creativity! I started a drama club at my high school and recently performed the role of Peter Pan. I planned and helped host my sweet sixteen party where we danced the night away to Donna Summer and sounds of the disco. From performing to hosting, I love being able to improve the moods of people around me.

More than anything, I’m not afraid to be different. You can find me in my favorite pair of glittery gold boots, performing for a crowd, or listening to the Rolling Stones with my dad. I take pride in boldly following my heart and pursuing my passions even if they’re unique from other teens. I’m full of energy and a day with me will never include a dull moment. Every day is an adventure and I love seeing where life takes me next!

Please write a short essay (2 or 3 paragraphs) explaining your passion for your platform and your stance on the subject. Be sure to name your platform and give a brief explanation of its purpose as well.

Heart disease is the leading killer of Americans. While it may be common, it’s not something you often think about as a teenager until it affects you. My mom passed away due to dilated cardiomyopathy earlier this year. She complained to me about chest pains the day before she passed. Her life was cut short simply because she was unaware of her heart issues. Losing her has opened my eyes to the countless others who will face this same problem.

The American Heart Association is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke.  I have chosen to partner with the AHA so that we may improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans, reduce deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke, and provide public health education. Through my platform, Heart Health, it is my goal to educate and help others prevent heart disease so that they do not experience this same tragedy my family has.
