Greatest non-academic accomplishment: Undergoing a double mastectomy at the age of 19. It was the hardest and most painful experience of my life, but I am incredibly proud of myself for overcoming it and staying positive throughout it all. I’m proud of the person it made me. It also led me to start my own non-profit organization “Caps that Care” collecting and distributing hats to patients undergoing chemotherapy as well as write my memoir “My Crowning Achievement: Beating Cancer.”.
What is your favorite style of music? My favorite genre of music varies with each song really, but I normally gravitate towards pop and 80’s rock.
What is your favorite movie genre and why? Any film made in the 1980’s has a very special place in my heart. Horror, comedy, romance, teen, etc. does not matter. If it is from the 80’s, I will watch it. When recovering from my mastectomy, I’m absolutely convinced I’ve watched every film ever made in the 1980’s, my favorite being Weird Science.
What is your favorite gadget? I am completely obsessed with my hot chocolate mug collection, my Christmas collection being my favorite. I buy novelty mugs wherever I go and drink hot chocolate with mini marshmallows whether it is 85 of 8 degrees outside.
What is your favorite blog? The Molly Effect: a blog written by a cancer survivor named Molly who tells her story and her journey through the disease. It speaks volumes.
What is your favorite place to visit? Anywhere that allows me to feel small such as the mountains, the ocean, the Grand Canyon.
What is your favorite food? Fried macaroni and cheese balls from The Cheesecake Factory. I eat it as often as I can!
If you were on a deserted island, what book would you want with you? I would want my Bible, however cliché it sounds. I think if I were stranded on a deserted island, I would need the grace of God to get off!

Thing to do on a weekend: During football season, I attend every home Mississippi State football game, but after football season I love to go bowling or skating with my friends.
Way to spend a day off: I love baking white chocolate chip cookies while binge watching Netflix or curling up with my cat Jury and a good book.
What is your hometown like? My hometown is quite small and quaint, but is most magical at Christmas. The town square is covered in giant glittering snowflakes with strings of lights reaching from the top of courthouse down to the tops of the trees.
What were you like when you were a child? I did not fight naptime, but I would steal the other children’s french fries when they were not looking.
Who is the most influential person in your life? My mother is the strongest and bravest person I know. She has taught me more about life and love and strength than I could have ever imagined knowing.
What is the one thing about you that people you meet may not immediately realize? I have a very serious side, am quite a deep thinker, and I worry more than I ever should.
Describe one defining moment in your own life, other than winning your local title: When I was told I had a gene mutation called the BRCA1, I knew my life was going to take a drastic turn. I watched my mother fight breast cancer, and I knew when I was made aware of my mutation, my journey was about to begin.
What is one important thing you have learned from being in the Miss America Program? I have learned that everything I have is not everything that I am. I have been taught that life’s wins and losses are simply peaks and valleys. I have a voice and it is powerful and it most certainly deserves to be heard.
If you are crowned Miss Mississippi, what do you want to accomplish during your Year of Service? I would like to promote my platform of Breast Cancer Awareness and spread the word of early detection as well as hopefully winning the title of Miss America.
What is your secret wish or dream? To portray Ariel the Little Mermaid at Disney World.
I’m motivated by: My fear of failure. Not accomplishing my dreams or reaching my goals terrifies me so much it pushes me that much more to pursue them; “Live by Faith, not Fear.”
Is there a personal connection that made you pick your personal platform? Breast Cancer runs deep in the roots of my family affecting most of the woman including both my mother and myself. My personal journey makes me that much more passionate of my platform.
What do you think has been the most significant event in your lifetime? The legalization of gay marriage is a day both this country and I will never forget. I believe it was a day the world stood still for a moment, but whether it was perceived as a good or bad day, is dependent upon the person.

My best friend would describe me as: My best friend Courtney would describe me as a hard-working, adventurous, and passionate individual who empathizes with those around in a way that always makes someone feel as though their problems are small.
Something interesting about my family: My great, great, grandfather was the sheriff of my hometown.
Funniest or most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me: Being the completely ungraceful person I am, I fall quite frequently walking to class across my college campus. One day I took a big tumble and later that day someone recognized me and asked “did I see you rolling around in the grass earlier today?”
One thing I’d like to try that is out of character for me: Playing sports is completely out of character for me, but if I were to play one, I would want to play soccer.
Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and tell us their names: I have a chihuahua dog named Bonita and I also have three cats named Bob, Jury, and Charlie.
