What makes you special and unique? My ability to connect with others I have not known   long.

What is the one thing about you that people you meet may not immediately realize?   I am an adventurous girl. If it seems fun or scary I want to try it at least once.

Best advice you have ever received?     Do not change yourself or your beliefs in order to make other people happy. The people that mean the most to you will accept you exactly the way you are.

What can’t you live without? My family is my life.  I would not know where to start if I did not have them.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure? Cookie dough ice cream is my weakness. The worst part is I eat it right before dinner or in the middle of the night.

What is your favorite movie genre and why?  My favorite movie genre is romantic comedies because who does not love a great love story that has some humor in it.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?  In ten years, I see myself being a CRNA here in Mississippi, having traveled around the world, and maybe married.

Most valuable lesson learned? Setting goals and working as hard as you can to reach those goals so you will not look back and have anything to regret.

Most valued role model (other than your mother) and why? Carolyn Belvin. She is my grandmother, who has taught me to see the positive in every human being and every situation.  She is able to handle anything life throws her way with grace and love.

What motivates you?   Living my best life, remaining true to my faith, and praying for a successful future is what motivates me.

Greatest non-academic accomplishment other than winning your local title?     Being chosen cheer captain in the ninth grade was an accomplishment I will be proud of forever.

Best compliment you have ever received?  Someone once told me I could light up a room.

Secret wish or dream?       My secret wish or dream is one day I will take a year off and travel the world with my family starting in Greece.

What is the funniest or most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?  I was chosen as a homecoming maid this year. During our annual homecoming pep rally, I tripped and fell while being introduced to the entire school.

What is one thing you’d like to try that is out of character for you? Scuba diving. Even though I am adventurous, really deep water scares me.

What is your super power? My super power is never being afraid to speak my mind and always standing up for what I believe is right.

What is one important thing you have learned from being in the Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen Program? The outpouring of support for my title. I have been so overwhelmed with love and support from my community, family, and friends.

Describe yourself in one word. Self-driven

A Fun Family Fact? My family and I have been to Walt Disney World 12 times.

My academics are my number one priority and I am so proud to say that I have been able to maintain all A’s since the first grade.  I stay involved in Rebels for Reading, Sr. Beta Club, Sr. Christian Club, student council, and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD Organization). I have also had the 3rd highest GPA in my grade for two years in a row.

When I am not studying, I love to have fun.  I am a huge concert goer and have seen many amazing artists live. Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, and the Jonas Brothers are a few I have been lucky enough to see. I am incredibly adventurous and fearless.  I higher off the ground and the scarier the more fun. One of my favorite adventures so far has been white water rafting the Olympic course in the Ocoee River in Tennessee. In the near future, I plan to scuba dive and sky dive with my family.

Traveling is one of my passions and since my family is extremely important to me, we love to travel together.  I have visited 16 states and the District of Columbia, but I want to add more to my list very soon.  The Mall of America, Lake Tahoe, Nashville, beautiful beaches in Florida, and Walt Disney World are some of my favorite places I have visited.  I also plan to take a year off and travel to Europe and explore what it has to offer.

Literacy is Key” is my platform.  Growing up with my mom as an elementary teacher, I have seen firsthand the negative effects of children falling behind in their literacy skills.  Witnessing children year after year struggling to maintain these skills not only stresses the student but also stresses the teachers.  My platform chose me because this was heartbreaking and unacceptable to watch.  I knew without a shadow of a doubt I have the dedication, compassion, and work ethic to give these children the mentoring they need.

I started a club at my school called “Rebels for Reading” which allows students in elementary who need help improving their literacy skills to come in and be tutored by older students like me and my peers.   We help them learn a more diverse vocabulary, strengthen their reading comprehension, and teach them to utilize their context clues.  “Rebels for Reading” has already touched so many students’ hearts whether they are the children coming in for help or the students volunteering.

My platform has truly made me realize what the Outstanding Teen Organization is all about. Literacy is something Mississippi has struggled with for too ling.  I believe that making sure children in lower elementary stay sought up with their reading skills and understand how to use them is the first step in bettering literacy in our community and state. “Literacy is Key” has already helped so many students and I cannot wait to continue to work to give them the encouragement and assistance they need.
