I am thrilled to be a contestant in the Mississippi Outstanding Teen Pageant.  This is my second year competing for the title.  I enjoy pageantry, and I plan to attend college after high school.  The chance to win scholarship money towards my college education while doing something I enjoy was an opportunity I did not want pass.  I am grateful to the Miss Mississippi System.   I am currently a student at Germantown High School.  My classmates are amazing.  They voted me to represent them on homecoming court the last couple years. I am a member of the Interact Club.  After high school, I plan to pursue a career as a broadcast journalist.  I have a strong interest in becoming a personal injury attorney as well.  I am still undecided about where I’d like to attend college, but I am having fun visiting campuses and reading about them.

I don’t have a favorite color, but shades of yellow and green catch my eye.  My favorite movie is “The Intern.”  I like the comparison between the baby boomer era to millennials.  I have a new favorite book.  The title is “The Last Black Unicorn,” an autobiography by actor-comedian, Tiffany Haddish. I am inspired by her ability to cope with challenges of growing up in foster care and being successful.   My favorite food is spaghetti with meatballs.  One crazy fact about my family is that we like to try and rate generic brands microwaveable popcorn.

Please write a short essay (2 or 3 paragraphs) explaining your passion for your platform and your stance on the subject. Be sure to name your platform and give a brief explanation of its purpose as well.

My platform in social media accountability.  My passion for the subject comes from my own experience.  Someone posted negative comments about me, and other people joined in responding negatively as well.   The words were hurtful, but after I talked to my parents, I had the courage to block those individuals.  I also understand people make mistakes and send wrong messages.  Texting is a form of social media.   Once you send a message, you can’t take it back.  I wrote a post about this on my Facebook page.    The purpose of my platform is to urge people to think twice about posting and responding to negative posts.  As I talk with groups about my platform, I encourage them to use my hashtag #GoodPostMS as a way to support my goal to bring awareness to social media accountability.   With more than 78 percent of U.S. Americans having social media profiles, we can enjoy the connection responsibly.
