A Fun Family Fact? Starting in December, my family and I watch a Christmas movie every Sunday leading up to Christmas day. My mom makes us snacks and we look forward to it every year!
My name is Karly Henderson. I am a 15 year old freshman at St. Aloysius High School in Vicksburg. I live with my mom, step-dad, three of my four brothers, and my dog. I love spending time with them because they make me laugh and we have a lot of fun together. My grandparents live near us and I enjoy visiting them as well. I am fortunate to have them living so close by because this has allowed us to be closer and see each other often. My entire family supports me in everything I do and I love them so much! My favorite hobby is dancing. I have been dancing for 12 years and I attend classes at RiverPointe Dance Academy twice a week. I am a member of my school’s 5-time state championship dance team. I am a dancer in the school play, “The Wizard of Oz,” for the third year. When I am not busy with dance, play practice, or school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also love playing with my yorkie, Mali. She is my tiny best friend and the cutest dog ever!
My platform is Let’s Move!, which is expressing the fact that dance is for everyone no matter size, age, or gender. I want people to see that dance is inclusive and recognize the mental and physical benefits from dance. For example, some people think that just because they are special needs or have a disability they can’t dance. I want to let everyone know that they most definitely can! I want to get as many people as possible involved in dance because it is an outlet to express yourself and everyone should experience that. My vision for Let’s Move! is to go into Jacob’s Ladder, a school for special needs in my hometown of Vicksburg, and teach them fun combinations and get them moving. I think this would be fun and really great for them to see that they can be involved in dance too. I also plan to go into elementary classrooms in Vicksburg and teach them a fun dance while informing them about the benefits of dance. I am very passionate about my platform and can’t wait to get everyone involved! Let’s Move!
