What makes you special and unique? I am part of a large family with five kids; four brothers and I am the only girl!

What is the one thing about you that people you meet may not immediately realize? I love to be silly and have fun with my family and friends!

Best advice you have ever received?  “Kill them with Kindness” My mom has told me this my entire life and it has been very beneficial as I grow older.

What can’t you live without? I can’t live without my mom. My mom is my rock and my best friend all in one. She is always there for me and exemplifies strength every day. I wouldn’t be able to live without all the laughs she gives me or the countless pieces of advice and love.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure? Watching Grey’s Anatomy while eating chocolate.

What is your favorite movie genre and why?   Horror! It’s exciting and so much fun to watch with friends while we jump and hold hands.

Where do you see yourself in ten years? I see myself finishing law school and joining a firm to start my career.

Most valuable lesson learned? Everything happens for a reason and God always has a plan for us.

Most valued role model (other than your mother) and why? My grandmother because she makes me laugh and has the biggest heart. She always puts others before herself.

What motivates you? Wanting to be the very best I can be motivates me to work harder.

Greatest non-academic accomplishment other than winning your local title?   Winning a state championship with my Flashettes dance team.

Best compliment you have ever received?    I have been told that I light up the stage when I dance.

Secret wish or dream?   I would love to be in a Broadway Show!

What is the funniest or most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you? During a practice with my dance team, we were doing turns and my knee randomly gave out for no reason. I fell on the floor in front of my coach and all of my teammates. My best friend thought it was hilarious but I was embarrassed. Looking back on it now, it was pretty funny.

What is one thing you’d like to try that is out of character for you? Scuba diving sounds so fun but would be out of character for me because I am terrified of drowning!

What is your super power? Always being there for my friends and lifting them up.

What is one important thing you have learned from being in the Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen Program? Be confident in who you are and be yourself.

Describe yourself in one word. Loyal

A Fun Family Fact?  Starting in December, my family and I watch a Christmas movie every Sunday leading up to Christmas day. My mom makes us snacks and we look forward to it every year!

My name is Karly Henderson. I am a 15 year old freshman at St. Aloysius High School in Vicksburg. I live with my mom, step-dad, three of my four brothers, and my dog. I love spending time with them because they make me laugh and we have a lot of fun together. My grandparents live near us and I enjoy visiting them as well. I am fortunate to have them living so close by because this has allowed us to be closer and see each other often. My entire family supports me in everything I do and I love them so much! My favorite hobby is dancing. I have been dancing for 12 years and I attend classes at RiverPointe Dance Academy twice a week. I am a member of my school’s 5-time state championship dance team. I am a dancer in the school play, “The Wizard of Oz,” for the third year. When I am not busy with dance, play practice, or school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also love playing with my yorkie, Mali. She is my tiny best friend and the cutest dog ever!

My platform is Let’s Move!, which is expressing the fact that dance is for everyone no matter size, age, or gender. I want people to see that dance is inclusive and recognize the mental and physical benefits from dance. For example, some people think that just because they are special needs or have a disability they can’t dance. I want to let everyone know that they most definitely can! I want to get as many people as possible involved in dance because it is an outlet to express yourself and everyone should experience that. My vision for Let’s Move! is to go into Jacob’s Ladder, a school for special needs in my hometown of Vicksburg, and teach them fun combinations and get them moving. I think this would be fun and really great for them to see that they can be involved in dance too. I also plan to go into elementary classrooms in Vicksburg and teach them a fun dance while informing them about the benefits of dance. I am very passionate about my platform and can’t wait to get everyone involved! Let’s Move!
