My name is Kali Lee and I am Miss Clinton Outstanding Teen 2017. I am sixteen years old, I teach dance at Dance Works Studio and this is my first time participating in the Miss Mississippi Program. Growing up a dancer, cheerleader, teacher and a busy big sister to three younger siblings, who are now six, seven and nine, I never really did much pageantry, but I am so excited and proud to be carrying this title!
I love my hometown of Clinton, but I also love to travel. My family is from all around the world so I spend a decent amount of time visiting my relatives in many different countries. I actually spent this past summer in Brazil with my great grandparents! Having an ethnic family really has shaped, and is continuing to shape the person I am. Being exposed to many different cultures, opinions and ways of living, I believe it is important to expand ways of learning, thinking and communicating. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity!
I am so proud to represent my city in this pageant. I have a special thank you for everyone who has helped me get to where I am now and to anyone that has taken the time to read a little bit about me!
Please write a short essay (2 or 3 paragraphs) explaining your passion for your platform and your stance on the subject. Be sure to name your platform and give a brief explanation of its purpose as well.
Making a difference in peoples lives through counseling is truly my passion. I want to positively impact someone’s life by being there for others because many have been there for me.I began to influence young girls’ lives by encouraging them to have a positive self out-look through my mentor group called “I’m Listening: Teens We Are Not Alone.” These are small groups of preteen girls that come together under a mentorship of an older teenager to have a safe place to talk about life.
When I was a young teenager I had many doubts about myself and felt I was the only one with those feelings. This pressured me into questioning my self worth and self esteem. My parents would hear me out sometimes, but I felt like they couldn’t understand me. I was always left alone with my feelings, consumed with a false image of myself and extremely insecure about every little thing. Little did I know, these are very common thoughts for people (especially preteen girls.) I began to realize that if I were part of a small group of girls that are just like me, I wouldn’t feel like I was going through everything alone. From this, I created “I’m Listening,” which provides young teenage girls the opportunity to be comforted in the fact that they are anything but alone.
