Hey! I’m Julieanna Jackson, a 14-year-old from Mize, MS. Because of my Dad’s job, I’ve been homeschooled all my life and have been traveling ever since I was born! I am an only child but proud to say I have lots of friends all over the country! My favorite places to go to are New York City, Los Angeles, and I just recently went to Hawaii for the first time with my best friend – Aloha! Some of my hobbies are singing, paddle boarding, making YouTube videos, and I love reading. Instead of a crazy cat-lady, I’m a crazy dog-lady. I have three dogs who I love so, so much! My favorite things to do on the weekends are go to the hometownfootball games, ride 4-wheelers with myfriends, and cook with my grandparents. When I graduate college (Mississippi State University), I’d love to be a 2nd Grade teacher.
Please write a short essay (2 or 3 paragraphs) explaining your passion for your platform and your stance on the subject. Be sure to name your platform and give a brief explanation of its purpose as well.
My platform is Matchbook. I match children with a fun book that gets them to love reading. Match-Book! When I was little, I was not very interested in reading. One day, I really wanted to go see the Percy Jackson movie but my mom said we could only go if I read the books. I finished all the books in about a week and have loved reading ever since! I’ve read so many science-fiction books, I can’t even remember them all! My purpose with Matchbook is to find books that children will love! On my website www.JulieannasMatchbook.com any parent and/or child can fill out a survey and find out which books pop up that would be a great reading match! I also make YouTube videos reading and sharing books dressed up as characters from the books! I recently visited an Elementary School where I read a SuperHero book to the class. There was one little boy that kept asking me if I could give the book to him. I wasn’t sure if I could, so I asked the teacher and she said yes! A few weeks later, his teacher told me that he had brought the book with him to school every day and read it to all his friends! Knowing that I helped that one child to love reading made me realize that I am making a difference with Matchbook!
