What is your hometown like?  Southaven is a busy suburb of Memphis, and is constantly growing.  However, it still maintains a laid back atmosphere.

What were you like when you were a child?  I was very active in dance, gymnastics, and singing as a child.  But with a brother in the house, I gained somewhat of a tomboy side as well.

Who is the most influential person in your life?       My mom, Claire Oakley.  She not only became both mother and father in my life, but also battled breast cancer at the same time.

What is the one thing about you that people you meet may not immediately realize?

People automatically assume, due to my happy-go-lucky personality, that I have not been through any hardships.

Describe one defining moment in your own life, other than winning your local title:

My sophomore year of high school, all of the DCHS choirs won their categories at Ole Miss Choral Festival.  It showed me that hard work truly pays off.

What is one important thing you have learned from being in the Miss America Program?

Since winning the title of Miss DSU, I have learned to not underestimate my abilities.  That despite what I may tell myself, I am capable of amazing things.

If you are crowned Miss Mississippi, what do you want to accomplish during your Year of Service?

Of course, I want to spread knowledge about my platform around.  However, I truly want to bring a sense of confidence to today’s society – the same confidence these pageants give me.

What is your secret wish or dream?  I would love to become famous in some way through my singing.

I’m motivated by:  My friends, family, and teachers that constantly push me past my set limits.

Is there a personal connection that made you pick your personal platform?

Yes, my father and childhood friend both committed suicide.  So by increasing awareness and promoting prevention, I can help people that were once in my father and friend’s shoes.

What do you think has been the most significant event in your lifetime?

My father’s passing, in the end, has molded me into the person I am today.  Since this event caused me to gain the strength I have today, I would say it has been most significant.

The one thing I can’t live without:         My phone – since my family/friends are so spread out.

My best friend would describe me as:  Creative.  Her and I always paint, craft, and write with one another.

Something interesting about my family:         When looking at my mom and dad’s side of the family, we live spaced out between California to Connecticut.

Funniest or most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me:  When I was younger, my brother bribed me to pretend I was lost so he could hit on a girl.

One thing I’d like to try that is out of character for me:  I’d like to try snow-boarding.  It is out of character for me because I’m more artsy rather than sporty.  (Also, it’s a lot warmer here in MS.)

Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and tell us their names:  Yes!  I have 2 dogs; Sam – Black Lab & Frankie – Yorkie.  4 cats; Lucy – Maine coon, Suzie – white/grey, Roary – orange tabby, Sneakers – grey/white.
