What is your hometown like? My hometown of Hoover, Alabama is a fairly large metro area of Birmingham that’s a football-centered powerhouse divided between “Roll Tide” and “War Eagle”, but everyone yells “Go Bucs” on Friday nights
What were you like when you were a child? I was a spunky and creative child, which loved to play dress up and have tea parties with my neighbors. I also loved to nap, anywhere and everywhere
Who is the most influential person in your life? The most influential person in my life was my former dance teacher, Angela Walker, who was Miss Alabama 1985 and fourth runner up to Miss America. Dancing for her inspired me to follow in her footsteps, and she was always there to answer my questions and help me practice anything from my talent to my interview
What is the one thing about you that people you meet may not immediately realize? People may not realize that I’m actually a very shy person, I come off very outgoing and personable, but really most of the time I’m scared to speak my mind because I don’t want people to judge my opinions
Describe one defining moment in your own life, other than winning your local title: A defining moment in my life was winning the fitness category in the Distinguished Young Woman of Shelby County’s program. All my life I have played sports and to be recognized on stage for my fitness achievements made me proud to be a student athlete
What is one important thing you have learned from being in the Miss America Program? Being in the Miss America Program I have learned that being yourself is the most important thing you can do. This year while participating in preliminary competitions I made some wonderful friends that have the same interests and views as me, and I would never have gotten so close to them had I not been myself on and off the stage
If you are crowned Miss Mississippi, what do you want to accomplish during your Year of Service? If I were to be crowned Miss Mississippi I would want to encourage everyone in the state, from children to senior citizens, that you are always able to be your best self by being healthy, being involved, being a leader, being a volunteer, and being confident. I would hope that during my year of service I could reach a vast audience and truly make our state the best it can be
What is your secret wish or dream? I secretly wish that I could perform on Broadway. I wish I could perform every night on stage with extravagant costumes and makeup, dancing and singing my heart out
I’m motivated by: I am motivated by my family members, even though they are thousands of miles away from me, they always support me and allow me to do the things I dream of. My mom sends me daily reminders to keep myself on the right path, my dad is my biggest fan and is always sharing his pride in me, and I always strive to be the best role model for my sister that is always the first person to congratulate me, even if I don’t win
Is there a personal connection that made you pick your personal platform? After serving MAO for one year, I learned that there was simply nothing more important than encouraging everyone to be their best selves, whether it came to competition nights or traveling around to promote their own platforms, everyone needs to hear that they are special and are capable of being who they want to be. I picked the 5 steps of being healthy, being involved, being a leader, being a volunteer, and being confident because they were the categories I was always encouraged to strive in and I wanted to share my personal message with as many people as I was able to
What do you think has been the most significant event in your lifetime? I think the most significant event in my life thus far would be becoming a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. My sorority means the world to me and my sisters have changed my life for the better, I couldn’t imagine my life without them
The one thing I can’t live without: I absolutely cannot live without my chap stick. Most days that’s the only type of makeup I put on and I use it every single day
My best friend would describe me as: My best friend would probably describe me as spontaneous. I always call her with the most random facts or funny stories, but I also call her to go out places last minute as soon as I receive an invitation
Something interesting about my family: My family has moved a lot since I was born. I was born in New York and then we moved to Maryland, Ohio, Alabama, and now back to Maryland, and I had five different addresses before my 5th birthday
Funniest or most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me: I was about 5 years old and I attended my first Alabama football game, and being from New York I was raised a Jets fan. At the Alabama game I chanted J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets after every touchdown, and the woman behind us look at me and said, “honey, you’re not a Jets game”, and my parents will never let me forget this happened
One thing I’d like to try that is out of character for me: I would love to go to some foreign country and eat all of their local dishes. I’m an extremely plain eater, so tasting something that’s got interesting animals and spices would be extremely out of my element
