Please write a short essay (2 or 3 paragraphs) describing yourself to the people viewing the website. Let people know who you really are. Keep in mind the questions you’ve already been asked and include other things that you would like people to know about you. Most people would never know that I have two medical conditions that I deal with on a daily basis. I have very tight tendons in my legs and feet that often cause serious pain and make it difficult for me to walk correctly. In the ninth grade, I began turning blue, sleeping a lot and had lost my appetite. I was very afraid. We began going to the hospital twice a week and going from doctor to doctor. I was so scared I might not get the chance to live a full life. I was absolutely terrified. Finally I was diagnosed with methemoglobinenemia, a rare blood disorder. This experience made me realize life is precious and could be cut short at anytime. I am so thankful that God has given me a wonderful, supportive family as well as an opportunity to live and make. a difference in other people’s lives. My health problems have had a life changing impact on me. I realize life is entirely too short and I do not want to take it for granted. I never want to miss a moment. I have enjoyed traveling to many places like the beautiful state of Hawaii where I enjoyed talking to Pearl Harbor Veterans. I have also been very involved in many volunteer activities like painting the local Center for Pregnancy Choices building, promoting literacy in children’s shelters and helping with many school events. Because I have realized how beautiful and brief life is, my goal is to make a difference in the lives of others
Please write a short essay (2 or 3 paragraphs) explaining your passion for your platform and your stance on the subject. Be sure to name your platform and give a brief explanation of its purpose as well. My plans are to graduate from law school and become a Domestic Attorney. That plan along with finding out I may not be able to have my own children one day because of my rare blood disorder, resulted in my choice of platform, “Caring for Foster Children”. I promote adoption as well as foster care because I have an incredible love for children and believe every one of them deserves a “forever home”. I truly believe these systems have been glamorized by Hollywood, but people need to realize that there are about 3,700 children in foster care in the state of Mississippi. The goal of with my platform is to better the quality of life for these children and help them find permanent loving homes. My main program now is organization “37 Books”. “37 Books” will be a book drive promoting literacy among the 3,700 children in foster care in our state. Many of these kids do not have access to libraries or personal books. Providing these kids with an opportunity to improve their well-being is very important to me. I wish I could work on programs like this all the time and maybe extend it even farther to other kids in need
