What makes you special and unique? I believe my love for people makes me special and unique. I truly want to have a positive influence on every single person I meet.
What is the one thing about you that people you meet may not immediately realize? I love to read and write. I’ve always enjoyed reading and using writing as a way to express myself.
Best advice you have ever received? “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” I think it’s important to realize that we may not control what happens to us but we can control how we choose to use the things that happen. Our experiences can be used to make a difference and impact others.
What can’t you live without? Dance. It’s how I express myself and how I declutter my mind.
What is your biggest guilty pleasure? Sneaking off to restaurants with my dance family. After a night of long practices we will all sneak off to the local Chinese, Mexican or Mom and Pop restaurant.
What is your favorite movie genre and why? My favorite movies are action movies. They are so thrilling and exciting.
Where do you see yourself in ten years? I would like to see myself graduated from college, then possibly pursuing some kind of career in dance.
Most valuable lesson learned? When you are consistently persistent, you can make your dreams come true.
Most valued role model (other than your mother) and why? My dance teacher Claudia Taylor. She believed in me. She pushes me to be my best in all I do. Her care and concern for her students does not stop at the studio door. Most teachers see their dancers as just students but Claudia sees them as family.
What motivates you? My dreams motivate me. My dreams of a better future, dreams of being successful and dreams of making a difference. I want to make my dreams a reality.
Best compliment you have ever received? That I am a hard worker.
Secret wish or dream? To be a part of Cirque de Soleil. My nickname at my dance studio is “pretzel” because I love to learn new extensions, stretches, and splits. The Cirque de Soleil performers are absolutely incredible and I think it’s safe to say I secretly wish I were a part of that group.
What is the funniest or most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you? Well, I honestly didn’t learn to walk in high heeled shoes until a few months ago and when I first started trying to walk in them I was terrible. I don’t mean just a little funny looking, I mean “trip over nothing and fall on my face” terrible. So one day I felt like I should wear some heels out shopping to get some practice. Everything was going great and I felt like maybe I had finally mastered the art of wearing heels when suddenly my ankle twisted out from under me and I fell, pulling a whole rack of clothing down with me. I was mortified. However, I am proud to say that I eventually did get use to walking in high heeled shoes and haven’t had any more embarrassing falls.
What is one thing you’d like to try that is out of character for you? I am scared of heights but I would love to try parasailing.
What is your super power? Motivating and cheering people on. I love to see others accomplish their goals!
What is one important thing you have learned from being in the Miss Mississippi Program? I learned that my generation is still full of people who want to make a difference and improve the lives of others. The Miss Mississippi program is full of girls and women who are passionate about impacting the world an incredible way.
